I know its been too long since my last post, but thought a calendar post would be a nice way to start off the new year (granted its almost the end of January but still). So I have been quite obsessed with Uniqlo’s Calendar. Its pure awesome. Considering I just got back from Japan, this seems like an appropriate screensaver to have. Not only is it well-designed, it tells me the freakin date, weather, and displays some lovely time-lapse video content. I particularly fond of the penguin parade, the ninjas fighting on the roof in Tochigi, Shibuya crossing (I’ve been there!), and all the other cuteness that ensues. Anywho, you should get this screensaver too.
I am very excited about the latest collaborative project composed of two awesome DJ/Producers. Armand Van Helden and A-TRAK have teamed up under the name Duck Sauce. The album is supposed to come out sometime in September on A-TRAK’s Fool’s Gold label. For me, this is house music at its finest. Its FUNKY guys. “You’re Nasty” samples the track “Nice and Nasty” by Salsoul Orchestra which was on the album “Blueprint 2″ a compilation from, the one and only Jacques Lu Cont. I highly recommend these tracks and look forward to more from Duck Sauce.
Welcome to me nerding out over user interfaces and their designers. Here is how Dustin Curtis introduces himself, “My name is Dustin Curtis. I make user interfaces and experiences. I am obsessed with sushi, the sky, and the brain. Today is the 8,238th day of my life.” His site is easy to navigate through and explore. Probably one of my favorite parts is the about page. Chalk-full of entertainment. The timeline is BRILLIANT. Let me just list off the other things I find inspiring: the iconography (particularly the little fish that appears here and there), the navigation, the sign up box on the fuel site *swoon*, the one-pixel borders, the humor, I mean I could go on for days.
All in all, I find Dustin’s work to be utterly fantastic. He gets bonus points for being from the bay area.
Zoot Woman has a new album entitled, “Things Are What They Used To Be” coming out August 21st. I’M SO EXCITED. I’ve mentioned Stuart Price, who’s a member of the group before. I wish I could fast forward to the day when I will FINALLY see Stuart Price/Zoot Woman live, if he/they ever tour the US. Until that day, I leave you with one new track and one old.
I dont like my hair neat. I can’t get enough of this video and I haven’t posted a video in awhile so I thought now was as good a time as any. Tiga is great. I have tried to see him twice now, both times unsuccessfully which is truly a shame. I really don’t have much to add to this other than I just found out he has a podcast which seems interesting, so I will be checking it out. I’ve also included Shoes for your downloading pleasure.
Andy Gilmore of Rochester, NY has some amazing stuff in his portfolio. Great understanding of color obvs. Particularly enjoying his WIRED and Bones magazine covers. Anywho have a looksie at his site for more like this.
Would you know what to do in the event of an Earthquake in SF? I myself have experienced some craaazy earthquakes in my day (aka Northridge 1994) so I totally aced this quiz ya’ll. Not only is this informative, its also awesomely designed. The folks over at “I shot him because I loved him, damn him” worked with Asketic SF to create this glorious project. These design gurus has some awfully fun sites as well and the fact that they are SF-based makes them cool in my book. I love SF. I love design. I can’t say that I love earthquakes but at least now I’m prepared.
I love shuffle. So I was listening to my iPod and had totally forgotten about how awesome Louis la Roche is. Apparently he has a new EP out entitled Me & Her which I am currently checking out. The track below is one of my faves. I’ve also come across the awesome Mnuvrs that has a great mix by Louis la Roche. This site is fabulous obviously, I mean they have the same wordpress theme as me, sooo they must be cool. The mix below has been on repeat ALL DAY today. So great. Check it out.
Let me start off my gushing about the amazing I went to Saturday night. The Juan Maclean and The Field put on a super fun show at SF’s Mezzanine. Both artists were different in their own respects which created a nice balance. ANYWHO the show exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend seeing either one at some point.
Well since I love Alice, I thought I’d start this post off with a track composed almost entirely of samples for Disney’s Alice and Wonderland by this guy Pogo. The boy is like 19. Holy Cow.
So here are some other songs I have been listening too lately.
